Did God Really Say That?

This week's reading is Genesis 12:1-9. Spoiler alert: it's another slightly problematic text – unless you're really into the idea of God promising you land that other people already live on.

It's also an important story. So what is it actually trying to say? What does it tell us about the people who told it, the God they believed they were encountering, and what do we do with it now?
