Letting Go of Scarcity

Letting Go of Scarcity

The disciples saw a problem. Jesus saw a beginning.
Five rolls. Two fish. A child willing to share.

In the feeding of the 5,000, Jesus shifts the focus from what’s missing to what’s already present. Scarcity makes us panic and count what we don’t have. But Jesus invites us to look again — to notice the small things already in our hands and trust that they might be enough to begin. Abundance isn’t always excess. Sometimes it’s simply recognizing that what’s here, right now, can be shared.

The practice this week is about learning to notice how scarcity thinking shows up in everyday life.

Scarcity often sounds like: There isn’t enough time. I don’t have the energy. This won’t make a difference.

When those thoughts appear, the invitation isn’t to argue with them or pretend they aren’t real. It’s simply to pause. Take a breath. Look again.

Instead of focusing on what’s missing, ask a different question:

What’s already here?
What’s already been given?
And what small beginning might be possible today?

This week, practice noticing the small things already in your hands. They may not feel like enough to solve everything – but they might be enough to begin.

Let’s discuss in the comments.
