Don’t Put Words in God’s Mouth

This week, we continue through Exodus and arrive at the first few commandments – which, naturally, led us to spend an absurd amount of time figuring out what it actually means to take the Lord’s name in vain.

We also talk about God’s demand for Israel’s loyalty and what these commandments might be trying to protect people from.

After all, these are people who’ve just escaped a world where Pharaoh controlled nearly every part of their lives. Maybe God isn’t simply handing down religious rules. Maybe God is teaching a newly liberated people what freedom looks like, and how not to create another Pharaoh.
